This years PPP module has become second hand to my practice as a developing designer, I no longer feel as though it is an academic module as it has become part of who I am as a practitioner. A prime example of this was last week when I realised that the PPP submission was coming up, I instantly started to panic as I couldn't really remember doing the module but to my surprise, when I checked my blog it had over 100 blog posts published. It was here that I realised that engaging with the creative industries has become natural to my personality. I constantly find myself watching design related documentaries, reading design articles and literature and visiting galleries and exhibitions without even thinking about university work. It is an interesting transition when I find myself relaxing from the stress of university deadlines by watching or reading design related material. The creative industries now fills my free time as well as my work time and I often find myself engaging with the production of music along with creating artwork.
At the start of studio brief 2, I found myself thinking that interviewing creatives would be a pointless exercise however, it has given me so many valuable contacts who I am still in contact with to this day. It has also resulted in me being offered to come and work at Mixmag down in London for a few days and being invited to collaborate in future projects. Over the summer I intend to travel to London to pursue this invitation as well as push my book and app projects drastically. I will also continue to work freelance via my online portfolios.
I have found that skills such as presentations have developed drastically over the past year, along with traditional printing, motion graphics, editorial, book binding, wire framing, interface design, illustration and most of all, conceptual design. This year has been the most influential to my practice than any other year, the amount that I have learnt is staggering to me. At the start of the year I was using purely photoshop for all of my design as it was the only software we had at college, it was my aim to learn new software to help professionalise my practice. Now, I am proficient in After Effects, Adobe XD, InDesign, Illustrator and photoshop whilst also having a brief but developing knowledge of Cinema 4D and Sketch Up.
