Throughout this academic year, my engagement and professionalism within the creative industries has risen to a new level. I now feel established enough to move forward with confidence into the working environment of graphic design.
My confidence when dealing with clients has now grown to a level where I understand my value as a designer and can take account for additional factors in my price estimation such as printing cost and collateral for the client, along with profitability margins. I have stopped charging for jobs by the hour and now price in accordance to the client and the profit value of my design for the client. I can now justify why my design will cost ‘x’ amount as I understand the profit margins which a client will gain through the power of a successful advertising campaign or marketing strategy. Therefore, a job will be priced determined on who my client is and how much my design will benefit the company on a case by case basis.
My skills when being interviewed have drastically increased through experience, I am now aware of body language, tone of voice and the importance of presentation and time management within an interview. I am confident speaking to a couple of interviewers however, my confidence lacks when presenting my work to a room full of people. My skills in presenting have grown since the first year however, I must keep practicing if I am to pursue lecturing or professional talks in the future.
My engagement with creative events, exhibitions, documentaries and literature has become second nature to my personality. I consume knowledge on creative talks and articles on a daily basis, too much to have included it all on my PPP blog. They have become my biggest interest and will continue to be throughout my life and career as a creative professional.
After all of the hard work put into PPP over the last three years, I cannot speak highly enough about the importance of this module in transitioning me to a work environment and mindset. Reaching out to professionals has gained me some valuable contacts, work experience and now even a job lined up as a designer at JD Sports when I graduate.
