OUGD602 - Improved Professional CV

Based on the advice given to me during my one to one CV workshop, I have edited and improved the layout and content of my professional CV. I have also formatted the CV to be more in sync with my new business cards and invoice.

My old CV with the notes can be seen below,

OUGD602 - DJ Mag Published Work

The editorial work I completed during my internship at DJ Mag has finally been published in this months edition of the magazine. It feels so rewarding seeing my name credited in a magazine which I have followed throughout my entire life. This experience of seeing my work within an official established band like DJ Mag has made me feel ready to be part of the professional working environment.

The editorial spreads I designed along with my name credited can be seen below.

OUGD602 - PPP Presentation Reflection

After having my final PPP presentation, I have realised how far I have come in terms of engagement and experiences with the creative industries however, it also highlighted that I still need to work on skills such as presenting in front of a crowd if I am to continue progressing as a creative professional. These skills will be needed when pitching for a client or conducting professional talks myself in years to come i.e. as a lecturer or conference speaker. I will need to continue practicing these skills after university to build them and shake nerves which I currently feel when presenting.

OUGD602 - AV8 Livestream Collaboration

Progressing on our brand exposure as Revamp, we have collaborated with AV8, a live streaming platform set up by fellow student Sam Hughes. This is yet another way of progressing and gaining a fanbase for our social media platforms.

OUGD602 - Official Business Cards

I now see a real need and purpose for having business cards as as my engagement with creative practitioners and freelance jobs have increased dramatically within the last year.

OUGD602 - University of Leeds Career Fair

I visited the Leeds University Career Fair to reach out and network with some possible employers. During my time I handed out CV's to the likes of Abercrombie & Fitch, AMT Motors and JD sports. The most promising contact I made was the worker at JD sports as we had an in depth talk about my creative practice and viewed my latest culturally relevant project on 'The North Face' fashion brand. This was followed up by a conversation about a possible internship in the near future.

OUGD602 - One to One Professional CV Workshop

During my time at the University of Leeds Career Fair, I had a one on one workshop to improve my creative CV. I also received a Careers Centre book to help guide me with graduation and careers advice. A scan of the notes taken on my CV is below.

OUGD602 - DJ Mag Work Experience

After my successful interview, I was invited to come and do some work experience in the DJ Mag studios as a trial for the open Junior Designer position. Working within this environment has not only given me some valuable industry work experience, but also boosted my passion and drive even more as it solidified just how much I would love working within this position.

I mainly worked on editorial spreads for the magazine along with some digital assets for the website.

I followed up after my work experience with an email to the art director at the company to stay as professional as possible.

OUGD602 - Reaching out to Creatives & Company Research

In an attempt to 'get my foot in the door' within a creative studio, I decided to use my publication 'Logo, Font, Rave, Type' as a catalyst to propel me into the creative industries. Therefore, I researched the location of certain music related design studios, and send a copy of my book in the post along with a personalised written letter and a printed CV. So far, I have send my book to Boiler Room, Thonik, Guap Magazine, DJ Mag, I Love Dust, Pfadfinderei and Awakenings. This will hopefully create a positive impact on the creative directors within these companies.

OUGD602 - York Art Gallery

Whilst in York I visited the York Art Gallery, there was a range of diverse work on display within the Gallery. I have made a note of many of the artists who were featured inside to use as future inspiration.

OUGD602 - Lotte Inch Gallery York

During my time in York, I visited the Lotte Inch Gallery. This gallery mainly specialises in ceramics along with hand rendered design which has inspired me to possibly use ceramics in a future project. It has the potential to be something more than just tea pots and cups.

I also spoke to some of the artists who were being exhibited and made some great contacts who I hope to stay in touch with.

OUGD602 - Blue Tree Gallery York

The Blue Tree Gallery in York was a small gathering of mainly paintings and manually rendered artwork which was refreshing compared to the usual graphics events I visit. There was also a large section of leaflets to art related events and competitions which I hope to research into further.

OUGD602 - Revamp 005 - Space Dimension Controller - Joshua Brooks

For our latest and most ambitious event, we have hired Space Dimension Controller and LNS to headline. We have had to pay for flights for both of these DJ's to fly them into the country from abroad. Costing us around £3,300 for bookings, flights, hotels, promotional material and travel, this is our most expensive event to date which has only been made possible through our profits from our last 4 events. We are ambitious to continue pushing our brand further as we progress with our events to turn our company into a sustainable and profitable events company or all parties involved.

For the artwork of this event, we have collaborated with 2nd year students Harvey Williams and Laurie Miller.
