OUGD602 - Castle Fine Art Gallery - Manchester

Over the christmas period, I visited Castle Fine Art Gallery in Manchester to get some inspiration for future briefs. Much of the work on display used image reappropriation which is extremely relevant to my Context of Practice essay and could even be used as research to develop from. It also got me thinking about different mediums and formats which graphic design can expand into. There was artwork applied to furniture and crates, onto metal and even some pieces covered in shattered glass. It really got me thinking outside the box in terms of how to present my final outcomes in a new and innovative fashion.

OUGD602 - ((Re)Sound) Exhibition

The ((Re)Sound) Exhibition held many similarities with the brief in OUGD603 ,  therefore, it was a great opportunity to see how other artists had represented sound through their artwork. I only wish that I would have known about this exhibition sooner so that I could have maybe possibly collaborated and had my work exhibited also.

OUGD603 - It's Nice That - Graffiti Artist Research

I have recently found this article on It's Nice That which I found particularly inspiring in terms of an Extended Practice brief based around Graffiti. It is important to stay engaged with the creative industries on a daily basis as you never know where your next piece of inspiration may come from.

OUGD602 - Expanding the Publishing & Development of 'Logo Font RaveType' Publication

This year, I have been continuing with the development of the book produced in OUGD504 - Studio Brief  - Final Resolutions, by continuing to reach out to record shops and companies throughout Leeds. Through this, I have made even more contacts throughout the industry and been referenced to various companies in London which support and stock the sales of similar publications. The book is now stocked in Tribe Records, and 212 with the intention to further distribute the book to stores in Manchester over the Christmas break.

OUGD603 - Collaborative Day Brief

This brief entailed us working in small teams to conceptually overcome a variety of problems using a variety of different thinking methods. In reflection to this day, I feel as though it freed me up to not be so fixated on the aesthetic design of a problem and focus more on the concept of the solution. I will attempt to pull some of these working methods through into my practice throughout the year by only worrying about how my solution to the brief will look later down the line.

OUGD602 - University Book Sale

Whilst browsing books, I came across three to purchase which I felt could really benefit my developing practice;

• 'Ambrose, G. (2014) Print and Finish, New York: Bloomsbury Publishing'
• 'Triggs, T. (2010) Fanzines: The DIY Revolution, San Francisco: Chronicle Books LLC'
• 'He, J. (2009) Small Studios: Page One'

Since then, I have found 'Fanzines' to be extremely beneficial in both my Context of Practice Essay and my Extended Practice briefs for inspiration. I also hope to study and experiment with some of the printing techniques from 'Print and Finish'. And to be honest, I bought 'Small Studios' purely because I loved the aesthetics of the book, hopefully the content will be just as interesting as the book design.

OUGD602 - Revamp 003 - DJ Haus in your House

For our third event, we collaborated with Defected Records and The Mannequin Collective to host a house party in Leeds. For this event, we set up a live stream feed to showcase the whole event online throughout the whole night. Event planning, organisation, props, sound system and promotional material also had to be put in place, this was executed by a variety of members from both the Revamp and Mannequin Collective team. This was another great step to progressing our company and really showcased what collaboration can offer when hosting events. It also allowed us to gain valuable contacts within the record label Defected Records which we intend to utilise in the future.

OUGD602 - Liv Siddall Professional Talk / Personal Tutorial

I personally found Liv's talk extremely reflective of my own practice, her passion for editorial design, music, and postmodern aesthetics resinated with my own ideals. I found these useful subjects to talk about in the tutorial session, especially with me currently writing my dissertation based on image reappropriation. Through this, I have been given her email address and hope to stay in contact about future editorial projects and possibly even collaborate later down the line.
